Problem
Build a complete, laptop-class open-source motherboard platform around the RK3588 compute core while keeping the design modular, reviewable, and ready for iteration as the project moves from concept into routing and validation.
Method
• Organized the design into hierarchical KiCad sheets for compute, power, memory, audio, high-speed I/O, and peripheral connectivity.
• Targeted a Rockchip RK3588-based architecture with an STM32 embedded controller for power sequencing, input handling, and platform management.
• Planned a dual LPDDR4x memory architecture and a dedicated laptop-style power and charging subsystem to support a real portable computing platform.
• Kept the project intentionally modular so signal integrity, debug access, and subsystem review remain manageable during early-stage PCB development.
• Documented the work-in-progress status clearly in the repository so the design can evolve without pretending it is a production-ready release.
Result
Created an open-source laptop motherboard concept that is structured for real engineering iteration, with a clear architecture for compute, memory, power, and I/O while remaining in active routing and validation phases.
